MR. AMERICAN
By Larry Markusic
On Sunday, November 27, The American Hotel and Restaurant of Akron, hosted their third annual Mr. America Contest. While outside the American, Akron was under attack of the first of winter's "fluffy white stuff." In fact, the severe snow storm and freezing temperatures prompted several contestants to cancel at the last minute due to road conditions. Steve Skorbot, part owner of the American, received several phone calls about two hours before show time, from contestants reporting that due to the severe road conditions, they would be unable to get to the American in time for the contest. At one point during the evening, Steve considered postponing the contest until the following week, however, as bad as the road conditions were, there were those among the contestants who refused to let the snow stop them from coming, as did the throngs of anxious spectators who had faced near blizzard conditions in order to see this year's Mr. American Contest. Steve, seeing how his clientele had responded to the scheduled attraction, refused to let them down, and immediately called forth the stand-bys to replace the missing contestants and announced that once again, he would deliver what he had promised, (Something that Steve and The American are noted for.)
While the contestants were changing into their regular clothes and making final preparations, Steve provided the finest in disco music and light show.
Regardless of the severe whether the atmosphere in the American was "warm and cozy" in preparation for the excellent viewing to soon take place.
As the first of the seven contestants were called on stage, a near capacity crowd gathered around the stage. The hopeful entrants appeared first in street clothes and later came on stage in very revealing bathing suits, which gave the audience an excellent opportunity to see their better qualities.
First of the entrants was Stephen Adley of Akron, Stephen stood 5'7" tall and weighed 128 pounds while his measurements are 37" chest, 29" waist and 34" hips. Stephen's hobbies are reportedly nude swimming and related sports.
Second on stage was Harry Averill of Akron. Harry stands 6'1" and weighs 160 pounds. His measurements are 38" chest, 32" waist and 37" hips, it was quite evident to the audience that these features combined with Harry's warm captivating smile and genuine good looks. Harry enjoys collecting and refinishing antiques as well as swimming in his spare time.
Third on stage was Tom Angelo of Youngstown. Tom
>
stands 5'10" and weighs 170 pounds. His measurements are 45" chest, 32" waist and 36" hips. Tom enjoys football and skating as his favorite hobbies.
Next on the scene was Stephen Cutright of Bolivar. With Stephen standing 6' and weighing in at 146 pounds and body measurements of 40" chest, 29" waist and 30" hips, he provided the audience with some excellent viewing.
Don Ellis, a photographer, knew a good pose when he had one with his small frame of 5'9" and 135 pounds and excellent physique -36" chest, 28" waist and 29" hips, his favorite hobbies include soccer and music.
Bill Blaurock, a welder from Akron, definitely showed the build of a welder with measurements of 40" chest, 31" waist and 36" hips combined with 160 pounds packed into a 5'11" frame.
And last, Gary McCoury of Canton, Gary hosts measurements of 38" chest, 27" waist and 29" hips. Gary enjoys all sports, especially hunting, fishing, and scuba diving.
To add to the enjoyment of the evening, Steve put one of the following questions to each of the contestants: Describe french kissing without the use of hands or hips. Describe explicit sexual acts without the use of any
"dirty words". What do you notice first when you cruise a man and why? If you had to choose one of three candy bars to describe your sexual prowness, would you choose 5th Avenue, Payday, or Mr. Goodbar?
Before the judges made the final decision, the audience had a chance to pick their favorite of the seven, with their applause and cheers and when the results was finally told it would seem that the judges agreed unanimously. With but a short pause, the winners were announced, Third runner up was Stephen Cutright of Bolivar, Ohio, Tom Angelo of Youngstown placed second and overwhelmingly, Gary McCoury of Canton placed number one. Gary received a portable television and a trophy for his efforts this nite, another trophy to place on his mantle; Gary was one of the winners in the Club Bath Contest in Cleveland last year. Writers note: this writer feels that Gary will probably win many such awards during his life, for obvious
reasons.
